A one-page standard-form appearance of counsel (Form AO 458), entered on the docket April 8, 2025, by which Joshua Lewis Dratel became counsel of record for Miles Guo in United States v. Miles Guo, 23 Cr. 118 (AT).

Background

Over March and April 2025 a series of filings and proceedings concerned assigned counsel and substitution of counsel: a defense filing in support of the appointment of assigned counsel (Dkt. 499), three government letters regarding the motion for substitution of counsel (Dkts. 500, 501, 502), an ex parte letter motion requesting leave to withdraw as counsel (Dkt. 520), and hearings before the Court on substitution of counsel (Dkts. 483, 525). Melinda Marie Sarafa filed her notice of appearance the same day (Dkt. 682).

Note

An appearance of counsel contains no factual allegations or legal argument; its significance lies in identifying the representation and the point at which it began. Dratel, Sarafa, and John F. Kaley went on to produce the principal sentencing-phase filings: the 108-page sentencing submission of March 21, 2026 (Dkt. 822), the reply of April 17, 2026 (Dkt. 834), the transmission of 1,259 supporter statements on April 29, 2026 (Dkt. 843), and the motion to adjourn sentencing of June 25, 2026 (Dkt. 853).
