Application
The order recites that an application was made by the United States of America for the limited unsealing of all petitions submitted pursuant to 21 U.S.C. § 853 (the "Ancillary Petitions") entered in the case in response to the Preliminary Orders of Forfeiture at docket entries 488 and 720. The stated purpose of the application is to permit the Government to obtain unredacted versions of those petitions.
Ruling
The Court ordered that the Ancillary Petitions be unsealed only to the extent necessary to permit the Government to obtain unredacted versions from the Clerk of the Court.
Context
The Ancillary Petitions are the third-party claims filed under § 853(n) by persons asserting an interest in property subject to forfeiture. At the June 29, 2026 sentencing the Court had noted that numerous such petitions had been sent to it and said it would provide further guidance on their handling in due course (Doc 864). This order does not resolve any petition on the merits and does not open them to the public: the unsealing is expressly limited to the Government's retrieval of unredacted copies from the Clerk.
